Before you choose your blinds you need to measure the window so you know exactly what size you are looking for. The first thing you need to do is identify whether your window has a recess and whether your blind will fit inside or outside of this space.

Measuring Windows With a Recess

Metal tape measures are best for accuracy. The first step is to measure the width at 3 different points as it may not be consistent along the whole recess, measure at either end and in the middle. Use the smallest measurement as your width guide. If you are thinking about getting Venetian, Roman or Roller blinds, then you should reduce the width by 1cm to allow for smooth extension.

The next step is to measure for blind length, simply take the tape measure from the top of the recess to the windowsill at 3 points and make a note of the narrowest point. If you are getting vertical blinds then reduce the length by 1cm to prevent the fabric from rubbing on the windowsill.

Measuring Windows Without a Recess

Again, using a metal measure, measure across the window width, adding 10cm to the total width to allow a 5cm overlap either side of the window so you can block out light. We recommend if you are wanting roller blinds to add a further 5cm to allow room for the operating mechanism. You will then need to decide where you want the bottom of your blind to end, and then measure it from the top of the fitting to the chosen point.

We hope the above helps you in choosing the right blinds for your windows. Head over to our blinds range to browse now.
